Beyond the Aquila Rift

Thom is the skipper of the blue goose, a ship prepared to leap across the the stars to reach its destination. However, not all goes according to plan.

The novel, Beyond the Aquila Rift is a short sci-fi psycho-thriller written by Alastair Reynolds in 2016. It follows the story of a crew of three - Thom, Suzy and Ray - as they make another routine trip to a distant system using an ancient alien technological superstructure, known as an aperture, which links to others like it across local star systems and, on occasion, beyond.

After an unexpected error, they land in a destination apparently not to far of course of their destination. Thom, being the only one to wake up, finds that they are being boarded by a party including an old acquaintance, Greta, who insists he leaves his fellow crew members in stasis while the ship is repaired and sent on it’s way.

As time goes on revelations regarding the nature of their predicament intensify, Thom becomes increasingly intent on finding solutions and uncovering the truth.
